Olive Oil
The island of Kos produces extra virgin olive oil. It has many olive groves, many producers and has two olive oil mills.
Alonaki
Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil of Kos
On the island of Kos, southeast of the settlement of Zia, is the area “Alonaki”, dominated by the homonymous olive grove of the Diakanastasis family.
The olive grove, shaped in terraces (pezoules), was awarded by the Greek state in 1964 for its elaborate construction and the quality of its products.
The olive grove combines the effort of those who created it, the passion of those who continued it, the enthusiasm and innovative ideas of the next generation.
The ideal altitude of the estate, the south-eastern orientation, the organic cultivation and the characteristics of the soil, create the ideal conditions for the Coroneiki and Thrubalia varieties to produce the best results.
The extra virgin olive oil “Alonaki” is produced by the cold pressing method and bottled in the first bottling plant on the island of Kos, which belongs to the Diakanastasis family.
Our olive oil was awarded with a silver medal in the ATHENA International Olive Oil Competition (ATHENA International Olive Oil Competition) and is available in selected stores.
Orkos
Extra Virgin Olive Oil of Kos by Lesperides
“Orkos” is a Greek word which means “oath”. Our olive oil took its name from Hippocrates’ oath, which is written in all packages, in ancient Greek, so that all consumers will be able to taste high quality olive oil and understand the origin and the values of “ORKOS’’.
“Lesperides” is a local – forgotten – word for the farmers. By using it we want to create a connection with the past and the traditional farming practices, without the use of unnecessary chemicals. It symbolises the respect for the old. The word “Lesperides” together with the illustrated plow create a logo that is well balanced and modern, and simultaneously bringing in mind the traditional character of the company.
